March 2010 Post:

Do you find yourself resting in peace.  No, i’m not talking about the phrase that some have etched on their grave stones.  Last night, I was able to sit on the couch with Melinda and Jackson next to me.  There was such a sweet joy talking to my wonderful bride, and my son was tucked under my arm commentating on the cartoon playing on the television.  But i noticed how easy it was for Melinda, Jackson, and myself just to ease into comfort and rest at the end of the day.

You may think that this is just exhaustion talking, but it really isn’t.  I have had many times that even though I’m exhausted, the lack of peace in my life, doesn’t allow me to rest.  People tell me of nights that because of all the stress, turmoil, and uncertainty of life, they stare at the ceiling many nights unable even to sleep.  But what helps you get this rest and peace that Jesus shares with us.

1-  Don’t go at life and life’s task alone.  Matthew 11:29-30

2- Take time to encounter Jesus personally & intimately.  Mark 6:30-31

3- Prioritize what really matters in life.  Love God & Love People He placed in                         Your life.  Mark 12: 28-31

4- Enjoy the promise of protection & fulfillment.  - John 10:10

5- Remember you are in the middle of the story of your life and what's ahead is in God's hand.  - Philppians 1:6

God knows the importance of rest.  Even Jesus rest in the boat during the storms.  He is the God of Peace, allow Him to guard what He gives in your life.

February 2009 Message:
"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
~Jesus Christ, Matthew 11:28-30 [HCSB]
A new year is now well underway.  That
means you are busy at your job, thinking already      about your taxes possibly, or as a student, this      semester has already brought new demands to
your table.  Much of that can be a very heavy load
to bear.  So how can you or I handle that?  I just      seems like to much sometimes, doesn't it?

This month continues our hope at FSBC that
2009 will be a year of great invitation.  We desire
to see new faces mixed into      those familiar to
us.  We desire to see new hearts pluggin into a      connection and relationship with Jesus.  We
desire that the body of Christ at FSBC will be      consumed by a new fire that God stokes in      our hearts to be used by Him and to serve
     others.

That sounds like a huge weight to carry, but
our God is with us.  The Scriptures tell us that "if
He be for us, then who can be against us."  I      believe we need to grasp hold onto the promises      of Jesus words when we feel like we don't have      enough "umpf" to move toward the goals laid
     before us.

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and
I will give you rest.  All of you, take up My yoke &
learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

But what does that mean?  Are things just
going  to be easy if I trust Jesus?  No, it means
that if you have the faith to follow the One who
can bore the total weight of the cross, then be      trusting enough to share the load of life with
Him daily.  He asks us out of His great love to take      that which earnestly burdens our souls to Him.       Then as two oxen would share the same load, to      give that yoke over to Him.  Then walking side by      side, we will be able to follow His lead of love.

He does this saying that He is the gentle and      humble servant that even as the Lord of heaven
and earth, He desires to do something significant
in the lives of the individual.  Because He be so
real in my life and your life as a person, imagine
what the whole church would look like if we walked      and worked with this same heart for Christ.  Side
by side with us He is willing to walk.

Do not be afraid to be His disciple... Choose to      Love God.  Choose to love people.
